Spring plates are the tough fibrous joints used on certain types of outdoor chairs to enable them to mimic the action of a rocking chair. These plates look hard but are designed to bend under load. They do this by being made of tough fiber. These plates are drilled and then bolted to the chair frame and the chair base. Unfortunately, these plates wear out and become brittle with age. They can splinter or even shatter in some cases.
Replacement of swivel rocker spring plates is easy and safe if you follow a few steps.
Note: Be sure to tighten the bolts but do not over tighten them. 20-foot pounds is sufficient if you have a torque wrench. If you don’t have a torque wrench then one half turn past the point were the bolt goes tight would be plenty.
